# Aston Villa: Moise Kean exchange deal mooted

**Aston Villa could use Douglas Luiz to sign Moise Kean from Juventus, [Italian journalist Marcello Chirico has claimed](https://twitter.com/MarcelloChirico/status/1533798772878229504).**

### The lowdown

Last summer, Juventus signed Kean on loan from Everton with an obligation to buy him for [£24million](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58392415).

Kean did make [44 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moise-kean/leistungsdaten/spieler/364135) in 2021/22 but starting opportunities proved to be limited. Max Allegri selected him from the off in just 12 Serie A matches, and one Champions League fixture.

[The Athletic’s Gregg Evans](https://theathletic.com/3330860/2022/05/24/gerrard-kamara-aston-villa-chasing/) reported in May that Steven Gerrard may look to add ‘another forward option’ to his squad during the summer transfer window.

And [transfer insider Dean Jones recently suggested that Villa might look to move Luiz on](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-dean-jones-shares-potential-departures-bertrand-traore-morgan-sanson-douglas-luiz/).

### The latest

Chirico [tweeted](https://twitter.com/MarcelloChirico/status/1533798772878229504) on Monday afternoon that ‘Aston Villa is interested’ in signing Kean this summer.

They have apparently ‘offered’ midfielder Luiz to the Bianconeri as part of the deal.

### The verdict

[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/profil/spieler/447661) value Luiz at £31.5million, £7.5million more than Juventus have agreed to pay for Kean. And given that the Italian is clearly a little way down the pecking order at the Allianz Stadium, it seems unlikely that they would demand cash in addition to Luiz.

That, then, raises the prospect of a straight swap, an ‘[unusual](https://theathletic.com/2771268/2021/08/19/every-owner-thinks-their-pony-is-the-prettiest-one-at-the-fair-why-swap-deals-dont-happen-more-often/)‘ occurrence in football.

Is Kean the kind of no. 9 Villa should look for?

Well, his [return of six goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moise-kean/leistungsdaten/spieler/364135) last season is underwhelming, but remember, he rarely started games.

And the previous season, at Paris Saint-Germain, Kean commendably [bagged 17 goals,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moise-kean/leistungsdaten/spieler/364135/plus/0?saison=2020) with manager Thomas Tuchel dubbing him ‘[fearless](https://theathletic.com/2193852/2020/11/13/moise-kean-everton-psg-loan/)‘ and former PSG player Eric Rabesandratana also [praising his Edinson Cavani-esque work-rate](https://theathletic.com/2193852/2020/11/13/moise-kean-everton-psg-loan/).

Signing the [seven-time trophy-winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moise-kean/erfolge/spieler/364135) would still be a risk, though, given that he struggled in his previous stint with an English club, [netting only four times in 39 outings for Everton](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moise-kean/leistungsdaten/spieler/364135/plus/0?saison=2020).
