Aston Villa: Alan Hutton feels Josh King would be a good fit at Villa Park - Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton believes that Bournemouth striker Josh King would be a “good addition” to Dean Smith’s side.

King in Villa’s sights

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Villa Park in recent weeks. Despite the club signing Ollie Watkins from Brentford, Smith is looking to bring another striker in to deputise for the injured Wesley.

King was relegated with the South Coast side last season and has scored 50 goals and conjured up 17 assists in 171 appearances for the club, adding to his career total at all levels of 69.

Villa had a £16m bid rejected by the Cherries, with the likes of Everton, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United also interested in taking him from the Championship outfit.

After decimating Premier League champions Liverpool 7-2 last time out, it illustrated that Villa have had a fantastic transfer window so far, bringing in the likes of Bertrand Traore, Emiliano Martinez, Matty Cash and Ross Barkley, as per TransferMarkt.

Hutton, who played for the Villa for five seasons, believes that King would be another solid signing, but only if the price is right.

“The window’s open to the 16th, something like that. He’d be a great addition,” he told Football Insider.

“If he doesn’t come in, look, I think they’ve had one of the best transfer windows for a long time so it’s not a bad thing if they didn’t but if you’re looking at the squad, they’ve got Ollie Watkins, Keinan Davis – they’re maybe looking to bring someone else in just in case.

“It would be a good fit, I think he can play in several positions which is another tick in the box but I’m sure he’s got a few admirers.

“I don’t think they would want to go overboard in the price for him, I don’t think they have to. If they could get a deal, I’m sure they’d definitely look at it because he’d be a great addition to the squad.”

Cherry on the Claret and Blue cake

As if this summer’s transfer dealings haven’t been glorious for Villa fans as it is, the arrival of King would cap it off as a perfect summer for the club.

They only just avoided relegation last season on the final day against West Ham United and now find themselves as a much stronger and competent outfit, with players still yet to come back from injury.

All Villa have to do now is to keep this positive momentum going. If they do, maybe they could even find themselves playing European football as they were under Martin O’Neill 12 years ago.

Hutton is right. Getting King through the doors would send a clear message to the rest of the league that Villa aren’t just in the Premier League to make up the numbers. If they aren’t being taken seriously after their Liverpool trouncing, they will with this signing.
