Aston Villa are set to make an offer of more than €10m (£8.5m) for target Julian Alvarez, according to Argentine outlet TNT Sports.

The Lowdown: Alvarez profiled

Alvarez, who was linked with a move to Villa Park last month, can play anywhere across the front three, with his main position coming as a right winger.

The 21-year-old made one appearance for Argentina at the Copa America, earning his second cap for his country. He has just 18 months remaining on his River Plate contract and is currently valued at a career-high £13.5m by Transfermarkt.

Alvarez has scored 16 goals and registered 17 assists in 69 appearances for his current employers, and it seems as if a move to the Midlands could now gather pace.

The Latest: TNT Sports update

According to TNT Sports, Alvarez’s representative is in England.

The report claims that an offer of more than €10m (£8.5m) is set to be made over the coming days ahead of a potential transfer for the young forward.

The Verdict: A shrewd move

Alvarez can play anywhere across the front three, so he would provide Dean Smith with plenty of versatility.

He already has plenty of experience at club level and is also an international, and still just 21 years of age, you’d expect that his best is yet to come.

Argentine duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia could well help Villa in their pursuit of their fellow countryman, and it seems as if the Midlanders will step up their attempts to land Alvarez in the coming days.
