Alan Hutton has claimed that Ahmed Elmohamady will probably leave Aston Villa at the end of the season.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Villa ace has suggested that Frederic Guilbert may well return as the understudy to Matty Cash for the 2021/22 term, which would in turn likely mean that Elmohamady would be allowed to leave the Midlands club in the summer.
Should Aston Villa sell Elmohamady?
Asked if he could see a chance of the Egypt international staying on at Villa Park beyond the summer transfer window, the ex-player said:
“Possibly. I know that I know the manager likes him and it’s always good to be able to rely on people, and he does.
“He trusts him, every time he puts him in he does trust him so that’ll be in the back of his mind, you do need that little bit of experience.
“I think that was what they missed the first season in the Premier League, they got rid of too much experience and they found that out in later time, if you want.
“They might want to hold on him but at the end of the day he is coming to the end of it so Villa seem to be looking towards the future more.
“Whether that be they try and move him on or whatever, and obviously have Matty Cash with your backup of Guilbert, he’ll probably move on at the end of the season.”
Time for Elmohamady to leave Aston Villa
With Cash establishing himself as the first-choice right-back under Dean Smith, coupled up with the fact that Guilbert may well stay on at AVFC as his understudy, it would be the right time for Elmohamady to leave at the end of the campaign.
Although he can still offer his own qualities, as former Villa striker Darren Bent told Football Insider last month that his crossing is ‘top quality’, he is 33 years of age now and so surely does not have many years in the tank left at the highest level.
Given that Villa are also very well-covered in his position, it would be a wise move for all parties involved if he were to leave the club.
