Aston Villa duo Tom Heaton and Keinan Davis are struggling to get game time and as such, they are both being linked with moves away during this transfer window. However, Dean Smith has shed light on their futures at the club.
The latest on Heaton and Davis
The Villa manager was asked about the duo, via Birmingham Live, and said:
“They are valuable members of my squad. At the moment, Keinan Davis is our first centre forward substitute for Ollie Watkins. Likewise, Tom at the moment, who’s on the bench. Valuable squad members who both want pitch-time, obviously, but will have to be patient.”
Is this good news for the club?
These comments suggest that the manager wants to keep the duo at the club and this is good news for Villa fans. The two players haven’t set the stage alight since Villa were promoted back to the Premier League, but they do provide some good depth for the club and it is vitla to have quality players in reserve.
With goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez picking up nine clean sheets already this season and striker Ollie Watkins picking up seven goals, it is easy to see why Heaton and Davis aren’t getting many chances. This season has seen COVID cause many implications, and Villa have seen this first hand.
Therefore, with so many games to be played, the duo could well get chances to shine this season and they will have to impress in these cameo performances if they want to stay in the side.
In other news, Gregg Evans has highlighted one transfer problem for Aston Villa.
