Aston Villa did some very good business in the summer transfer window. This included picking up Ross Barkley on a loan from Chelsea and Dean Smith has discussed whether this deal could be made into a permanent transfer.
What Dean Smith had to say about Barkley
Speaking via Birmingham Live after being asked about the player possibly signing on a permanent, Smith said: “It’s not been discussed. The idea was to bring him on loan. He’s a Chelsea player and they’ve got a long-term contract with him. That’s one Johan (Lange) and the owners will speak about.”
Villa should do everything possible to sign the Englishman
Barkely’s stats for the club so far this season, before his injury, emphasise exactly why Villa should look to sign him on a permanent deal. Barkley has played five times in the Premier League for the Midlands side, scoring two goals and getting one assist.
Despite Villa already having a great creative asset in Jack Grealish, they will definitely lose a huge threat if Barkley goes back to Chelsea in the summer. This is due to the fact he has averaged 3.4 shots, three key passes and 2.2 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard praised Barkley in the past as he said: “I am delighted with him and he just needs to keep those levels. There is more to come and his attitude has been first class.”
Despite nothing being spoken about yet, there is a long time for Villa to come to some sort of an agreement with Chelsea if they did want to pursue a transfer.
Therefore, supporters should not worry for the time being and they can still hope that the club do everything in their powers to make an offer for Barkley.
