Aston Villa and Tottenham are preparing moves for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa supporters have been reacting to the transfer update on social media.

Villa have already had a £25m bid rejected by the Saints for Ward-Prowse, who was first linked with a move to the Midlands back in June.

However, according to McGrath, who shared the news in his Wednesday transfer notebook, the 26-year-old remains Villa’s number one target.

Spurs also now have the central midfielder on their radar, with both clubs preparing bids.

Villa have already completed business with the Saints this summer by signing Danny Ings, but bringing Ward-Prowse to Villa Park could be tricker, with Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens vowing to keep the England international at St Mary’s.

Villa fans react

Well-known Villa outlet @villareport shared McGrath’s claim on Ward-Prowse on Wednesday evening.

These Villa fans were all delighted at the update, with one describing a potential move as a ‘statement’ signing.
