Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to Lee Hendrie’s transfer comments regarding Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin on social media.

Hendrie advised his former club to move for the 24-year-old should the Magpies suffer relegation from the Premier League this year.

Saint-Maximin made the move to St James’ Park in a deal worth £16.2m back in 2019 and has gone on to make 48 appearances for the Tyneside club.

The Frenchman has scored just six times for Newcastle, with Villa expected to move for a winger in the upcoming transfer window, along with a striker to challenge Ollie Watkins (The Telegraph).

Speaking exclusively to Football Transfer Tavern, relayed by Birmingham Live, former Villa midfielder Hendrie shared his views on the Frenchman, believing he could be a good addition to Dean Smith’s squad.

“He is one that I would certainly take. He’s got that Premier League credibility. We’ve seen what he can do.

“He’s got that attack rate, he’s got flair, you know, all sorts. He could be a key addition to a Villa side that I feel… that’s where they’ve really lacked, in wide areas.

“Touched on Trezeguet before, I think he’d certainly come into the side, he reminds me in certain elements of [Bertrand] Traore, but he’s possibly got that little bit more element of pace going forward and he’s very direct, so he’d be someone I’d certainly be looking at.”

Villa fans react

Birmingham Live shared Hendrie’s comments on social media, asking fans for their reaction. These supporters would all like to see the winger at Villa Park, with one describing him as ‘brilliant’.

"I’d definitely take him if there’s a deal to be done. Him, Neto and Abraham or possibly Edouard from Celtic would be a big increase in team/squad strength"

"These are the type of quality signings we now need to really kick on and push for top 6, Ward Prowse ASM Tammy Abraham would do nicely"

"Would be a great addition. Cheeky bid for Ward-Prowse too"
