Aston Villa will reportedly miss out on signing Napoli winger Jose Callejon due to the Spaniard’s disliking of the city of Birmingham.
The former Real Madrid man has the same representatives as current Villa pair Borja Baston and Pepe Reina, prompting speculation that he could make a move to the English club. Callejon’s current contract with Napoli expire this summer and he will be looking for a new club after not being offered a new deal by the Serie A outfit.
Despite links of a move to the Premier League side, Area Napoli report that any chance of a move is unlikely with the 33-year-old keen on a move back to Spain and unwilling to test himself in the English top flight at his current age.
Villa, who sit 19th in the current league standings, will seemingly not be looking to the summer transfer window just yet with all eyes fully focused on staving off relegation to the Championship.
Signing someone like Callejon does seem a bit out of the question at present and there is a chance that the former Los Blancos man would demand high wages and a big signing-on fee, given his previous with wealthy clubs such as Real Madrid.
Should Villa drop down to the Championship, a lofty wage packet would certainly be out of the question, and Dean Smith may be best served by looking for a younger alternative moving forward.
