Aston Villa have made some very impressive signings since returning to the Premier League. One of these has been Douglas Luiz. Clearly his good performances have not gone unnoticed as he is attracting the interest of Manchester City.
The report on City’s interest in Douglas Luiz
According to the Daily Star, City are considering a swoop to bring the 22-year-old midfielder back to Manchester. They sold the Brazilian to Villa for £15m in July 2019 but insisted on having a buy-back option of £25m included in the deal
Villa will hope that City don’t make a move for Luiz
Speaking towards the end of last season, Dean Smith heaped praised on the midfielder as he said: ‘Douglas has been unbelievable since we’ve come back.’
The Brazilian moved from Man City in the summer of 2019 and is a key name on the team sheet at Villa Park. He is effective at breaking up opposition attacks and he has shown this in the current campaign. The 22-year-old has managed, on average, 1.2 tackles and 1.7 interceptions a game this season (WhoScored). A player like this is crucial to allow the likes of Jack Grealish and the club’s other attackers to flourish further forward.
The fact that City want him back highlights that he is reaching the potential that got him involved at the Manchester club in the first place, and Villa are somewhat stuck and unable to stop him leaving due to the buy-back clause.
