Aston Villa: Fans discuss Mbwana Samatta’s future after £28m striker arrival

Many Aston Villa fans have given their opinion on the future of Mbwana Samatta after the arrival of Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.
27-year-old striker Samatta joined the Villans for £9.45m in January to bolster Dean Smith’s attacking options following an injury to Brazilian Wesley.
The Tanzanian goalscorer struggled however to make an impact in the Premier League, netting just one goal in his 14 appearances.
Samatta did make an impression in the Carabao Cup final though, bagging Villa’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
With the new season upon us, Villa boss Smith has added the services of Watkins, signing the striker from Championship side Brentford in a £28m deal.
A scorer of 26 goals in the Championship in 2019/20, Watkins will be expected to lead the line for the Midlands outfit next term and that has led to Samatta’s future to be discussed.
The Birmingham Mail asked Villa fans to give their verdict on Samatta’s future in a post on Twitter and it seems that they are divided. Some feel he should be kept on for now to provide competition and ensure he gets a fair crack of the whip – indeed this is a player who bagged 76 goals in 191 appearances at Genk.
However, others believe he should be moved on now that they have Watkins, Wesley and Keinan Davis in the squad, suggesting he isn’t good enough as proven by his meagre tally for the West Midlands club last term.
Keep until Christmas and assess then, if he hasn’t made an impact and Wesley is fit, look to move on via loan to a club where he’ll definitely play to protect his value #AVFC

Sell him for a decent price if possible. I’d rather have Wesley and Davis as backups🤷

Need to wait until Wesley is back to full fitness before getting rid, hopefully Samma will come good working as a two with Watkins.

Unpopular opinion but I’d keep him, even if we get king in I would rather see Davis go out on loan, with Watkins, Wesley (when fit) and King? All being regular starters and Ally purely as a squad player

He just needs to learn the English style and will be fine.

Keep him he’s only here a few months . Got great potential and i think he will do very well this season

Get what we can for him. Never going to cut it in the Prem. Not intelligent/instinctive enough. At his age, first touch/awareness should already be there, it isn’t.

Recoup any money we can and chalk it down to a bad business decision which I didn’t think Deano wanted anyway. The lad deserves game time for efforts but just lacks Premier league skills levels right now, I feel anyway.

Under impressed by Samatta’s performances last season. If we have the opportunity to recover a chunk of the fee paid I feel we should sell. If we do not sign a second striker we could keep Davis, if we do then Davis should be sent out on loan to build up his finishing skills.

Keep him he can get better with the season goes on and needs time it was his first half season and not really much time to properly given time
