Aston Villa: Spanish based striker emerges as potential summer arrival

A report from Spanish daily Marca has claimed that Aston Villa are showing interest in Mallorca forward Ante Budimir.
Villa boss Dean Smith has done well over the summer transfer window to bolster his attacking options with the signings of Ollie Watkins from Brentford and Bertrand Traore from Olympique Lyonnais.
Having fought off relegation last term, the Claret and Blue side will be hoping to move away from the bottom three this year and an opening day win over Sheffield United has seen them get off to a good start.
With the transfer window still open, Mbwana Samatta has been linked with a move away with reports claiming he is set to move to Fenerbahce.
With Samatta’s pending exit, Budimir has now been linked with a move to Villa Park with Marca claiming he is also attracting interest from Sheffield United.
The Croatian striker, who is valued at £13.5m, found the back of the net 13 times in La Liga last season but was unable to prevent Mallorca being relegated.
Reacting to the report, Villa fans took to @villareport to share their opinion. The majority don’t seem too keen, with one pointing towards his below par stats on video game FIFA as a reason not to sign him.
Why on earth would Villa do this when they have just got rid of Baston and look to be getting rid of Samatta – pointless.

Buying a quality second striker is much harder than buying a quality first choice striker. What quality player wants to sit on the bench?

Marca have never once got anything right regarding us, they once said we had agreed to sign David Villa from Barca in his prime spell…

Top flight experience between Italy and Spain, he has scored 18 goals over 68 games. Granted he bounces between teams quite often and likely doesn’t get much time to mesh. If he came super cheap, was willing to be a sub for the most part and wants to train hard, let him come.
