The future of Aston Villa attacker Trezeguet has been speculated about for quite a while now, but the latest reports have shed light on whether he will be staying at the club.
The latest on Trezeguet
According to The Athletic, Galatasaray have a long standing interest in the 26-year-old, but will not be acquiring him unless something significantly changes. Trezeguet is going nowhere in January because Dean Smith is content with his attacking options.
Is this good news?
Trezeguet has provided a quality attacking threat during this campaign even if his end product has been poor, managing an average of 2.4 shots, one key pass and 1.1 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
Journalist Gregg Evans praised the player before his injury, saying: “The amount of energy that Trezeguet puts in, it’s natural that he’s going to be tiring when it gets to like 65, 70, 75 minutes. [It’s] an incredible turnaround from that player as well, somebody who, admittedly I thought wasn’t cut out to be a Villa player, wasn’t cut out for the Premier League.”
With other attacking stars in the side like Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins, the club aren’t massively reliant on the Egyptian. However, he brings a lot to the table in attack and provides some good squad depth for the club so it makes a lot of sense that Smith is keen on keeping him.
