Arsenal are thought to be keen on signing Aston Villa duo Douglas Luiz and Ollie Watkins.

That’s according to ESPN, and a number of Villa fans have shared their thoughts on the transfer rumour via social media.

The Gunners appear to be after a new forward, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates Stadium in doubt.

Arsenal are planning for life without the 32-year-old, with sources informing ESPN that Watkins is on their radar. Mikel Arteta is reportedly a fan of the Villa striker, who has scored 21 times in 56 appearances for the Midlands club.

Meanwhile, Arteta is still looking to sign a holding midfielder, with Luiz another player of interest to the Gunners. The 23-year-old has turned out on 91 occasions for Villa and is under contract in the Midlands for a further 18 months.

Villa fans react

The AVFC Faithful on Twitter shared the rumours regarding Arsenal’s interest in Watkins and Luiz. Here is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with one labelling the Gunners ‘strange’ after the two clubs had also duelled to sign Emiliano Buendia last summer.

Given that the striker and midfielder are ranked second and third respectively among Villa's squad in terms of overall performance rating this season by WhoScored, it's little wonder so many of the club's fans have baulked at reports of the north Londoners' interest in the pair.
