# Aston Villa: Club could sign Said Benrahma

**Aston Villa could be set to sign Brentford attacker Said Benrahma, according to [The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1161677/Brentford-transfer-news-Neal-Maupay-Said-Benrahma-Exclusive).**

The report suggests that the Algerian will leave Griffin Park alongside Neal Maupay – who is set to join Brighton & Hove Albion, despite having been a target for Villa earlier in the window, as reported by [**Alan Nixon**](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1150333496692563969).

Benrahma started 29 Championship matches for Brentford last season, coming off the bench nine times, scoring 10 goals and assisting 14, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/137021/History/Sa%C3%AFd-Benrahma).

He was relentless going forward, making [**2.9 shots**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/137021/History/Sa%C3%AFd-Benrahma), 2.3 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per game throughout the campaign.

The Algerian’s game time was split fairly equally between the left and right-wing, as per [**Transfermarkt**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/said-benrahma/leistungsdaten/spieler/290532/plus/0?saison=2018), but with [Anwar El Ghazi](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anwar-el-ghazi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/183720/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) and [Trezeguet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trezeguet/leistungsdaten/spieler/234189/saison/2018/wettbewerb/TR1) already set to battle it out for the left-wing starting spot, it is likely Benrahma will compete with [Jota](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/176591/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the spot on the right.

In contrast, Jota made 33 league starts for Birmingham City, coming on as a substitute seven times, scoring thrice and making 11 assists, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97152/Show/Jota).

He also made [**1.6 shots per game**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97152/Show/Jota), 2.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game, which are all lower than Benrahma’s numbers.

Benrahma has shown in the Championship that he can be a dangerous player and with Villa’s fearlessness this summer of giving people their first Premier League chance including the likes of El Ghazi and Trezeguet, this could be a good fit.

What will be encouraging about this for Dean Smith if the deal goes through, is that he will have two quality options competing for a place on each wing, which should give him good squad depth for what is likely to be a gruelling campaign back in the Premier League.
