# Aston Villa: Hakim Ziyech backed for Villa Park move

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) could be the front-runners to snap up Chelsea winger [Hakim Ziyech](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/hakim-ziyech/), according to [talkSPORT](https://twitter.com/alex_crook) journalist Alex Crook.**

### The Lowdown: Ziyech linked with Villa

[Unai Emery](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/unai-emery/) will likely be eager to add to his squad before the January transfer window closes on Tuesday, with an extra attacker arguably required.

Ziyech is one player who has been [tipped](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/hakim-ziyech-aston-villa-transfer-26070432.amp) for a move to Villa Park, having struggled to feature regularly for Chelsea this season, making only [four starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/115868/Show/Hakim-Ziyech) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/).

Villa face competition for the Moroccan’s signature from the likes of [Everton](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Premier-League/27-01-2023/everton-sean-dyche-nuovo-tecnico-bielsa-ancelotti-jr-4502152601800.shtml) and [Newcastle](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/hakim-ziyech-transfer-news-chelsea-fc-newcastle-premier-league-2023-b1055433.html), but a fresh claim suggests that they are in a strong position.

### The Latest: Villa backed to land Ziyech

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88109664-aston-villa-unai-emery-hakim-ziyech-chelsea-premier-league-transfer-news-villa-park), Crook said that Villa could end up snapping up Ziyech, looking like a more appealing proposition to some other clubs.

The talkSPORT presenter stated:

> “I could see Villa actually out of all those clubs, I don’t think he’d particularly want to join Everton, nobody really wants to join.”

### The Verdict: Brilliant wide option

At 29, Ziyech may not necessarily be a long-term option, but he is someone who could inject some attacking magic into Villa’s team, possessing a [wand of a left foot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WJSTHxSM7E).

The Chelsea attacker has scored [19 goals in 50 caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakim-ziyech/profil/spieler/217111) for Morocco, coming at an average of one every 2.6 games, while he also has [14 goals and 11 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakim-ziyech/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/217111/verein/631) to his name for the Blues.

He would likely be an upgrade on Leon Bailey, whose record for Villa stands at just [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-bailey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/387626/verein/405) goals and four assists, while Ziyech has also been described as ‘[incredible](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11474609/Morocco-coach-Walid-Regragui-hails-attitude-Hakim-Ziyech.html)‘ by Morocco boss Walid Regragui and [featured abundantly](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakim-ziyech/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/217111) in the Champions League, winning the trophy two years ago.
