# Barcelona: Fans react to Messi’s injury news

**Barcelona fans have spoken out after it was revealed that Lionel Messi’s recovery is running slower than expected and that their legend will not return for at least another week.**

> Messi is recovering well, but slower than expected. It is unlikely that he will play against Valencia on Saturday. \[cope\]

Barcelona’s superstar has been out with a [foot injury since August](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lionel-messi/verletzungen/spieler/28003) and has so far missed the club’s first three games of the season, and it has been revealed the Argentine will miss the clash with Valencia and potentially even Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (AS via [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9907384/lionel-messi-injury-news-valencia-champions-league/)).

Clearly, Blaugrana have missed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner this season, with the champions of Spain registering one win, one loss and a draw which has slumped them into [eighth in the table](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/spanish-la-liga/table) early on.

The Catalan giants were stunned by Atletico Bilbao in a 1-0 defeat on the opening weekend, but [Antoine Griezmann](https://www.skysports.com/football/barcelona-vs-real-betis/415644) and 16-year-old [Ansu Fati](https://www.skysports.com/football/osasuna-vs-barcelona/415657) have helped lift Barcelona ever so slightly since then.

Thankfully for Messi and co. Valencia are in equally poor form sitting on four points as well. However, with the 32-year-old claiming a [record-equalling sixth Pichichi trophy](https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/news/1223304/sixth-pichichi-award-for-leo-messi) with 36 goals last season, fans will count down the seconds for his return.

Here is what they had to say…

> The squad has the players and the ability to beat Valencia without Messi.\
> I will go as far to say it can win UEFA Champions League without Messi.

> Am I the only person not feeling excited or optimistic about this season? Unless we appoint a new manager Barça will sink faster than Titanic did

> Messi preparing us for the eventual time without him… That’s why he wants Neymar so bad.
