# Barcelona: Neto ruled out for 6-8 weeks

**Barcelona goalkeeper Neto has been ruled out for between 6-8 weeks, after fracturing the scaphoid bone in his left wrist, that is according to the club’s [official website](https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/card/1310848/neto-out-for-6-to-8-weeks?hootPostID=4d998861e944c83f0187e0955b12f4ea#).**

Neto, who joined Barcelona this summer from fellow La Liga outfit Valencia, has impressed for the Catalans throughout pre-season, but will now miss the opening two months of the campaign due to this untimely injury.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper [underwent surgery on his wrist yesterday](https://en.as.com/en/2019/08/12/football/1565631133_585407.html), but will now need plenty of time to recover before returning to the first-team fold.

Neto spent two years playing for Valencia before [earning a €26m move to Barcelona](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48784878), he will serve as back-up to current No.1 Marc-André ter Stegen this season when he returns from injury, probably tasked with featuring for the Spanish champions in their less-prioritised Copa del Rey fixtures (spoken about by [Bleacher Report](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2843020-neto-joins-barcelona-from-valencia-in-transfer-worth-up-to-eur35-million)).

[Having kept 14 clean sheets in all competitions for Valencia last term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neto/profil/spieler/111819), Neto will arguably be the strongest second-choice keeper in La Liga this time out. His injury will be a blow to Barca, who will now be praying that ter Stegan avoids picking up any knocks during the opening 6-8 weeks of the campaign.

The only other ‘keeper manager Ernesto Valverde has available to him now is 20-year-old Iñaki Peña, who is yet to feature for the senior side.
