The Reds’ first team actually scored just [four goals in seven matches in all competitions last month](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-barnsley/spielplandatum/verein/349), with [one goal from the under-23 side added to the list of nominations](https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/september/august-gotm/).

Luke Thomas scored Barnsley’s [first goal of the season](https://www.skysports.com/football/barnsley-vs-fulham/409349) with his strike in the [opening day win over Fulham](https://www.skysports.com/football/barnsley-vs-fulham/409349), which remains the [only victory posted by Daniel Stendel’s team so far in 2019/20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-barnsley/spielplandatum/verein/349).

Cauley Woodrow netted with a volley and Conor Chaplin rounded off a team move in the [2-2 draw against Charlton](https://www.skysports.com/football/barnsley-vs-charlton/409372), while [Mallik Wilks found the net against Luton](https://www.skysports.com/football/barnsley-vs-luton/409396). The list is completed by [Elliot Simoes’ goal against Cardiff for the under-23s](https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/september/august-gotm/).

From the responses posted by these Barnsley fans on Twitter, one name in particular has emerged as a likely winner of the club’s Goal of the Month for August.

> Simples is class but it can only be Woodrows goal. The touch is exquisite and then a finish Harry Kane would be proud of.
