# Barnsley: Fans express shock and anger after Carabao Cup exit

**Barnsley were among the Championship clubs knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round last night, with the Reds subjected to a humbling 0-3 home defeat by League Two opponents Carlisle at Oakwell.**

The Reds gifted Carlisle their first goal with a sloppy backpass that gave Harry McKirdy the chance to slip the ball beyond Brad Collins and break the deadlock. \[[via BarnsleyFC.co.uk](https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/carlisle-report/)\]

Two goals in five second half minutes then sealed victory for the Cumbrian visitors, with Jack Bridge’s penalty and a Nathan Thomas strike inflicting further damage on Barnsley. \[[via BarnsleyFC.co.uk](https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/carlisle-report/)\]

It could have been a different story had Cauley Woodrow’s header at 0-2 found the net rather than the upright, although Carlisle had a couple of chances late on to further extend their lead. \[[via BarnsleyFC.co.uk](https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/carlisle-report/)\]

The Reds had not lost at home in Daniel Stendel’s 14 months in charge at Oakwell until last night, when the League Two side ended a winless away record that stretched back to January. \[[via BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49245373)\]

These Barnsley fans took to Twitter to vent their disappointment at exiting the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle:

> Shocking performance. Got what we deserved. Nothing.
