# Celtic: Fans weren’t happy with Jonny Hayes being brought on for James Forrest against Clyde

**Celtic eased into the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Sunday with a [3-0 win away to League One outfit Clyde](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51345413), although one decision by manager Neil Lennon during the game caused a stir among plenty of Hoops fans on social media.**

As noted by [@CelticFC](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1226528483662290945) on Twitter, Lennon made his first substitution of the day on 71 minutes, withdrawing James Forrest and bringing on Jonny Hayes in his place.

It was a change which meant that [January signing](https://www.celticfc.net/news/17446) Ismaila Soro, who has [yet to feature for the club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ismaila-soro/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/466765), [remained on the bench](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51345413), as did [rarely-seen right winger](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marian-shved/leistungsdaten/spieler/359247) Marian Shved, whose [frequent omission has been lamented by some Hoops fans](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-fans-call-for-neil-lennon-to-play-marian-shved-more-often-after-comments-from-hoops-boss/). However, the Ukrainian was [later brought on in place of Mohamed Elyounoussi](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51345413).

Hayes’ introduction off the bench on Sunday was his [23rd appearance of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-hayes/leistungsdaten/spieler/52380) for Celtic, with the Republic of Ireland international [scoring just once and providing two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-hayes/leistungsdaten/spieler/52380) during a campaign which has [frequently seen him play at left-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-hayes/leistungsdaten/spieler/52380) rather than the [right midfield role he has often occupied in his career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-hayes/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52380).

These Celtic fans on Twitter were not happy at seeing the 32-year-old being called upon over the likes of Shved and Soro for Lennon’s first substitution at Broadwood:
