# Birmingham City: Jude Bellingham is away on national team duty

**Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham is now away in Poland with England U17s, as reported by [The Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jude-bellingham-earns-england-honours-16861599).**

This is his first time with the U17s, having taken the step up from U16s, and he will now be a part of the squad, announced [last week](https://www.thefa.com/news/2019/aug/30/england-u17s-squad-named-for-poland-trip-300819), that will play three matches in the [**Syrenka Cup**](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jude-bellingham-earns-england-honours-16861599).

His step up on the international stage comes shortly after he scored his first-ever goal for the Blues on his home debut to secure a 2-1 win over Stoke City.

Bellingham has represented England at U16 level 11 times, scoring three goals and assisting twice, as per [**Transfermarkt**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jude-bellingham/nationalmannschaft/spieler/581678/plus/0/verein_id/30322), so a move up the age groups seems like a very natural progression for him, while the 16-year-old’s breakthrough at St. Andrews will have also helped his case for a step up.

His club debut came in the 3-0 Carabao Cup loss against Portsmouth, though he was a ray of light that came from a poor team performance, as he was given a rating of 7.5 by [**The Birmingham Mail**](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-fc-player-ratings-16711571).

They added: “Despite his tender age, the 16-year-old was composed on the ball and flaunted his impressive close control. A real bright spark on a forgettable night.”

He has since made two substitute appearances in the Championship, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379868/Show/Jude-Bellingham), rounding off his positive start to the campaign with that strike against Stoke.

This truly has been a brilliant start to the season for Bellingham and he could even add his first appearances at a higher level for the national team to his achievements in 2019/20.

Everyone should, of course, not get carried away, but this could be a very exciting season for the 16-year-old.
