# Leeds: Journalist backs Whites to sign Boubacar Kamara

**Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara would be an ideal signing for Leeds United in the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move), according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.**

### The Lowdown: Midfielder needed at Leeds

The Whites are [yet to sign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399/plus/?saison_id=2021&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=w) anyone this month but there is a clear need for [at least one new central midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kadernachposition/verein/399) to be added to the squad. Kalvin Phillips is still out of action for a while with a [hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/verletzungen/spieler/351749) and it is vital that Leeds fill the void left by the England international’s enforced absence.

One player with whom they have been [linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10361059/Premier-League-club-club-transfer-guide-Tottenham-need-striker-Chelsea-want-new-defender.html) is Kamara, who continues to impress for Marseille, making [17 Ligue 1 appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/331790/Show/Boubacar-Kamara) so far this season.

O’Rourke sees the Frenchman as an ideal candidate to join Leeds in January, and he talked up the potential move when speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/1817275-elland-road-transfer-news-225m-rising-star-fits-profile-of-what-leeds-are-looking-for).

The journalist claimed: “Yeah, he would fit the profile for what Leeds are looking for, especially with Kalvin Phillips being out injured. A defensive midfielder who can also slot in centre-back, if needed.”

### The Verdict: Ideal midfield option

Kamara looks a great option for Leeds to sign, although it could be difficult to get the deal over the line, given the likely fee required ([£10m](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/marseille-midfielder-boubacar-kamara-linked-22632593)) and interest from other clubs such as [Manchester United](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12509568/manchester-united-transfer-news-wolves-ruben-neves-and-marseilles-boubacar-kamara-among-targets).

The 22-year-old would bring plenty of defensive quality to the holding midfield role, having averaged [1.5 tackles and one interception](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/331790/Show/Boubacar-Kamara) per game in the league this season. Kamara has also been [hailed](https://en.africatopsports.com/2020/05/30/marseille-rolando-praises-qualities-of-boubacar-kamara/) as a ‘phenomenon’ by former teammate Rolando, which further speaks volumes about the quality of player Leeds could potentially sign.

With Phillips [sidelined for another few weeks](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11715/12506691/kalvin-phillips-and-liam-cooper-unavailable-for-leeds-united-until-march-due-to-injuries) and O’Rourke believing that the Frenchman would “fit the profile” of what the Whites want, they must push hard to try and get this deal done in January.
