# Brendan Rodgers states Scott Brown is still a “very important” player

**Scott Brown’s future at Celtic has come into doubt recently, however, it appears he is still very much a part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans.**

The captain started their Scottish League Cup final with Aberdeen on the bench, which has prompted speculation that he could leave Celtic Park in the summer.

The 33-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season and there has been talk about him possibly making a move to Australia, however, Rodgers has dismissed any talk of that happening.

“The team has been in very good condition, they have been playing very well,” he said, via [the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-liverpool-arsenal-13679784).

“I felt that the game for one or two of the players coming back was just a game too early.

“But listen, there is no doubt that Scott Brown is a very important player for us.

“People have been trying to write him off since I first came in here and he has proven to be an outstanding player for me and a great captain.”

Brown has had a difficult season this year, as he has had to spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines through injury.

When a contract is about to expire, especially when it is a key player, there is always a significant amount of speculation about where their future lies.

However, fans will be pleased with what Rodgers has said and will want to see their favourite tied down to a new deal quickly.
