# Everton: Blues podcaster fumes over defending for Brentford goal

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) podcaster Lee McClean was left fuming over the defending for Brentford’s equalising goal in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) this afternoon.**

### The Lowdown: Two points dropped

Even though the Goodison Park outfit were under the cosh for large parts of the game, as Brentford recorded more possession and more shots on goal ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/brentford-everton/Ysab)), it will still feel like two points dropped for Frank Lampard and his team.

They went ahead in the first half through Anthony Gordon, but Vitaly Janelt scored from a corner kick very late on in the second half to take the points away from the Merseyside club.

### The Latest: McClean fumes

Taking to Twitter after the goal was conceded, [McClean (*A View From the Bullens*)](https://twitter.com/LeeFMc83/status/1563552916354781185) was left fuming over the Toffees’ lack of reaction in the penalty box, claiming that they looked like they were ‘playing musical statues’, and describing the defending as ‘appalling’:

*“Were we playing musical statues there? Appalling defending.”*

### The Verdict: Not good enough

The Blues will know that their defending from the corner situation was simply not good enough.

[Everton news!](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/)

They conceded the joint-most goals from set pieces (19) in the top flight last season along with Leeds United and Leicester City ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/8618/Stages/19793/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2021-2022)), and it is no doubt something that they need to go and work on in the training ground.

Nonetheless, EFC will need to learn from this mistake and target a first win of the new Premier League season in midweek against Leeds.
