Brentford have sent a bid for £45m for Dortmund forward Max Beier. The Bees have been searching the market for a potential replacement for Yoane Wissa who has expressed his desire to leave the club.
Sky Sports has confirmed the official offer has been sent over with Dortmund left to make a decision. Brentford want to secure a replacement before allowing Wissa to leave, with the player heavily linked to a move to Newcastle.
Beier can play anywhere across the front line but has mostly been used as a striker for Dortmund. Brentford are long-term admirers of the player and attempted to sign him last summer from Hoffenheim.
The 22-year-old Germany international signed for Dortmund instead and made 46 appearances last season, mostly from the bench. He was an unused substitute for Dortmund’s opening Bundesliga game against St Pauli, casting doubt on his future at the club.
This doubt has since been compounded by Dortmund’s signing of Wolves striker Fabio Silva. Beier could fall down the pecking order once more.
Brentford hoping for Beier boost

Brentford have endured a difficult summer, seeing much of their key man from last season depart the club. Top goal scorer Bryan Mbuemo joined Manchester United, while club captain and midfield anchor Christian Norgaard left for Arsenal.
Starting goalkeeper Mark Flekken joined Leverkusen, while Manager Thomas Frank also departed the club for Tottenham, leaving the reigns to set piece coach Keith Andrews. Andrews has had the task of putting his side back together, a feat made more difficult by Wissa’s desire to leave.
The Bees have managed to recruit smartly, signing forward Dango Outtara from Bournemouth, experienced former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, and keeper Caoimihin Kelleher.
The arrival of Beier could spell the start of a blockbuster transfer domino ending with Alexander Isak moving from Newcastle to Liverpool. Brentford signing Beier could pave the way for the club to sell Wissa to Newcastle. Newcastle are looking for replacements for wantaway Alexander Isak before potentially allowing him to leave.
Though Newcastle have just agreed a deal with Stuttgart for their top goal scorer Nick Woltemade, Newcastle was believed to be on the market for two forwards before sanctioning Isak’s departure. Wissa could be the missing link that brings an end to one of this summer’s longest sagas.
