# Brighton & Hove Albion: Seagulls interested in Bertrand Traore but face stiff competition

**Brighton are reportedly among several Premier League clubs showing an interest in Lyon winger [Bertrand Traore](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/burnley-fc-transfer-rumours/burnley-bertrand-traore-transfer-race-west-ham/).**

French media outlet [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a6883872606290458481-lol-a-recu-une-premiere-offre-anglaise-pour-bertrand-traore) reported \[via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/fulham-make-offer-forward-brighton-consider-three-pl-clubs-prowl/)\] that the Seagulls are ‘very interested’ in the 24-year-old, although they have yet to submit an offer for the Burkina Faso international.

According to [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a6883872606290458481-lol-a-recu-une-premiere-offre-anglaise-pour-bertrand-traore), Fulham appear to be in pole position as they have presented an offer for the player, who is valued at around €25m (£22.6m) by the Ligue 1 side, with Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace also believed to have designs on signing him.

Traore, who made [16 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertrand-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/131996/verein/631) for Chelsea during the 2015/16 season, has seen his stock at Lyon drop considerably over the past year or so, managing only [four goals in 35 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertrand-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/131996) last term and [watching from the bench](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertrand-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/131996/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/CL/verein/1041) as his team reached the Champions League semi-finals.

He has yet to feature for Les Gones in the [early weeks of the current campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertrand-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/131996/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/FR1/verein/1041) and, as per [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a6883872606290458481-lol-a-recu-une-premiere-offre-anglaise-pour-bertrand-traore), realises that he does not into Rudi Garcia’s plans at the Groupama Stadium but continues to train with the Ligue 1 side.

It isn’t hard to see why Graham Potter is seemingly in the market for a right winger in this transfer window. Currently, his [only natural option in that role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/kadernachposition/verein/1237) is Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who has managed a paltry [two goals in 36 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/213268/verein/1237) for Brighton.

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8689439/Grady-Diangana-closes-West-Brom-West-Ham-accepted-20m-bid.html) had reported this week that the Seagulls were hoping to launch a last-ditch bid to sign Grady Diangana from West Ham, although [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11698/12061722/grady-diangana-west-brom-agree-deal-for-west-ham-forward) claimed yesterday that West Brom have agreed a deal for the 22-year-old, who is set to have a medical at The Hawthorns.

While Brighton could do with adding a more potent right winger than Jahanbakhsh to their squad, Traore does not seem like the most ideal option to pursue.

If Lyon refuse to budge on their reported £22.3m asking price, it would force the Seagulls to smash their [current transfer record of £20m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/transferrekorde/verein/1237) on a player whose productivity in recent months has left a lot to be desired. Also, in this [financially constrained transfer window](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/11/premier-league-clubs-set-for-500m-collective-loss-due-to-coronavirus), Albion could probably find more efficient ways to utilise their budget.
