# Brighton & Hove Albion: Some fans taunt Leeds in replies to Instagram post about Ben White’s new contract

**Brighton [announced on Tuesday](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1801532/white-signs-new-long-term-contract) that defender [Ben White](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-ben-white-set-to-agree-new-contract/) has signed a new contract with the club, committing his future to the Seagulls until 2024.**

That duly brings an end to weeks of speculation over his future, with Leeds making [three unsuccessful bids](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11741/12060405/ben-white-brighton-defender-close-to-agreeing-improved-new-contract) to sign the centre-back following his [loan spell at Elland Road](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/25105/leeds-united-sign-jack-harrison-ben-white) last season and each of the Premier League’s top six in 2019/20 also [believed to have been interested](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12418521/ben-white-transfer-leeds-man-utd-liverpool-chelsea/) in him.

Brighton also shared the confirmation of White’s long-term deal on their Instagram channel [@officialbhafc](https://www.instagram.com/p/CEmSG2KIZ9R/), encouraging fans to like the post by saying: “This news deserves a double tap from you all”. With almost 14,000 likes on the post as of this morning, many have answered the call to action from the club’s social media team.

However, some Seagulls fans also [took the opportunity](https://www.instagram.com/p/CEmSG2KIZ9R/) to taunt Leeds over their failed attempts to sign the defender permanently, with several tagging the Yorkshire club’s official Instagram profile in an apparent attempt to troll the newly-promoted Premier League side. Another supporter jubilantly [commented](https://www.instagram.com/p/CEmSG2KIZ9R/) “Leeds fans weeping into their pillows” accompanied by crying-with-laughter emojis.

White’s reputation soared after an excellent 2019/20 campaign on loan at Elland Road, [playing every minute of their Championship-winning season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/335721/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/399) and prompting his parent club to slap a [£50m price tag](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12418521/ben-white-transfer-leeds-man-utd-liverpool-chelsea/) on his head.

The 22-year-old has so far played just [twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/335721/verein/1237) for Brighton, [both times in the EFL Cup in 2016](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/335721/verein/1237), so he still has it all to prove at the Amex Stadium despite his prosperous spell with Leeds.

Judging by the huge show of faith from the Sussex club in giving him a four-year deal, however, White looks well-placed to prove why he is so highly-rated by his current employers, while he will have the chance to show Leeds what they are missing when Graham Potter’s side [visit Elland Road in January](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/fixtures/mens-team).
