# Brighton: George Cox set for permanent Fortuna Sittard move

**Brighton and Hove Albion left-back George Cox is set to make a permanent move to Dutch side Fortuna Sittard, according to [De Limburger.](https://www.limburger.nl/cnt/dmf20200608_00163327/fortuna-licht-optie-in-contract-george-cox)**

The 22-year-old joined Fortuna last summer on loan from the Seagulls and has firmly established himself as the Dutch club’s preferred left-back option, making [21 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-cox/profil/spieler/359692) in the Eredivisie during the 2019/20 season.

Cox, who [underwent heart surgery](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46209644) during the early years of his career, sees his current contract at Brighton come to an end this summer after having a loan spell with Northampton Town last season.

Fortuna, who have now made an official announcement on the [permanent](https://www.limburger.nl/cnt/dmf20200608_00163327/fortuna-licht-optie-in-contract-george-cox) deal for Cox, are said to be preparing the final details in the move which will [reportedly](https://www.limburger.nl/cnt/dmf20200608_00163327/fortuna-licht-optie-in-contract-george-cox) cost them €50,000 (£44,617).

The Worthing-born defender saw Fortuna hold off the threat of relegation after the Eredivisie campaign was ended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cox has performed very well for Fortuna this season, averaging [1.9 tackles and 2.2 interceptions](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/383604/Show/George-Cox) per game, and it seems a good move for him that he turns his loan into a permanent deal.

Surviving heart surgery during his younger years is a remarkable story but it is a shame that he did not get the chance to play for Brighton’s first team in his time at the club.

The summer transfer window will see a number of clubs make ‘cheap’ moves and it seems that Fortuna are signing a fine talent in the young defender.
