# Brighton & Hove Albion: Haydon Roberts attracting interest from English and German clubs

**Brighton teenager Haydon Roberts is attracting the interest of clubs not just from the English Championship but also from Germany.**

[The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/07/09/leeds-among-several-clubs-interested-brighton-centre-back-haydon/) reported \[via [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/leeds-haydon-roberts-transfer)\] that the 18-year-old defender is a target for Championship trio Leeds, Brentford and Derby, while he has been scouted by two Bundesliga sides in RB Leipzig and Mainz.

Roberts has played [primarily with Brighton’s underage ranks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/haydon-roberts/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/533523) and so far has only [one senior appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/haydon-roberts/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/533523/verein/1237) to his name, although it was a rather memorable one as he [found the net on his first team debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/haydon-roberts/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/533523/verein/1237) in the Carabao Cup defeat to Aston Villa last September.

The teenage centre-back has been [capped by England at underage level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/haydon-roberts/nationalmannschaft/spieler/533523) and has a decent scoring return for his position, with [six goals in 59 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/haydon-roberts/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/533523) at youth and first team level for the Seagulls.

His links with Leeds instantly evoke comparisons with Ben White, the 22-year-old who also plays at centre-back and who is on loan at Elland Road this season from the Amex Stadium. He has made quite an impression in Yorkshire, playing for the [entirety of Leeds’ 42 league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/leistungsdaten/spieler/335721) so far and attracting transfer interest [from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-want-to-sign-pl-ace-electrifying-their-scouts-35m-may-seal-deal/), prompting his parent club to stick a [£35m price tag](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-want-to-sign-pl-ace-electrifying-their-scouts-35m-may-seal-deal/) on him.

Leipzig would also be an interesting destination for Roberts, with the German club displaying a tendency to give young British talent its fling. Both Ademola Lookman and Ethan Ampadu have transferred to the Bundesliga side, with the former [signing permanently after an initial loan spell](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/lookman-joins-rb-leipzig-permanent-transfer-everton) and the latter [going there on loan from Chelsea](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49059041) during the 2019/20 season.

Brighton are already well-stocked for centre-backs with [Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster and Shane Duffy,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/kadernachposition/verein/1237) while White could also come into the fold next season if the Seagulls can persuade him to stay with the club.

Therefore, a loan spell for Roberts could be ideal so that he can gain valuable first team experience, with such an arrangement working a charm for White at Leeds this season.

***Brighton fans, would you be in favour of a loan move for young Roberts given White’s success at Leeds? Comment below with your views!***
