# Brighton & Hove Albion: Predicted XI v Chelsea

**Brighton begin their [fourth season as a Premier League club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/platzierungen/verein/1237) tonight as they welcome Chelsea to the Amex Stadium in the [last of the opening weekend’s matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/startseite/wettbewerb/GB1).**

The two teams met at the same venue just over a fortnight ago in a pre-season friendly which [ended 1-1](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54052535), which was also the final score in the [last league meeting between the clubs](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/bilanzdetail/verein/1237/wettbewerb_id/GB1/gegner_id/631/saison_id//heim_gast/heim/datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0) on New Year’s Day when Alireza Jahanbakhsh [scored a spectacular late equaliser](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50908733) with an overhead kick.

Frank Lampard has [spent more than £200m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/transfers/verein/631/saison_id/2020) in beefing up Chelsea’s squad ahead of the new campaign but the Seagulls have also been active in the market, with some shrewd acquisitions such as [Adam Lallana and Joel Veltman](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/transfers/verein/1237) from Liverpool and Ajax respectively.

[Graham Po](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-graham-potter-transfer-plans-new-signings/)t[ter](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-graham-potter-transfer-plans-new-signings/) has confirmed that Christian Walton, Jose Izquierdo and Florin Andone are definitely ruled out for tonight, while Davy Propper is a major injury doubt due to an Achilles problem. \[via [Sussex Live](https://www.sussexlive.co.uk/sport/football/white-webster-debut-lallana-pick-4512030)\]

Here is our predicted starting line-up for Brighton’s clash against the Blues:

![brighton-predicted-xi-chelsea-amex](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/lineup-1.png)

**Mat Ryan** was Albion’s [only ever-present player](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/211/Archive/England-Brighton) in the Premier League last season and the Australian goalkeeper will almost certainly start tonight’s clash. **Dan Burn** was a [regular at left-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dan-burn/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134270/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/1237) in 2019/20 and looks set to start there again, with captain **Lewis Dunk** taking up his usual centre-back role.

Having [helped Leeds to promotion](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/he-wore-it-brilliantly-yeps-leeds-united-player-season-revealed-2926651) last term while on loan, **Ben White** has returned to his parent club and could make his [Premier League debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/335721) tonight. Potter has the pleasant headache of deciding between Veltman and **Tariq Lamptey** for the right-back slot; with the teenager making his [England under-21 bow](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-tariq-lamptey-england-u21-debut-instagram/) last week and knowing Chelsea’s players from his time at Stamford Bridge, he may get the nod here.

\[freshpress-quiz id=”306835″\]

Propper’s likely absence will probably mean that **Dale Stephens** and **Yves Bissouma** start as the defensive midfield pairing. **Leandro Trossard** is likely to start on the left-hand side of an attacking midfield three, with **Pascal Gross** on the other flank. **Lallana** could then operate centrally to make his first Premier League start since [Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Wolves](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-lallana/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/43530/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/31) at the tail end of 2019.

The lone striker’s role will surely go to **Neal Maupay**, Brighton’s [top scorer last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/leistungsdaten/verein/1237/plus/0?reldata=%262019) with 10 top-flight goals, although Aaron Connolly may well feature off the bench at some point.
