# Brighton & Hove Albion: Tom McGill returns to Crawley Town for second loan spell

**Brighton goalkeeper Tom McGill has returned to Crawley Town for a second loan spell with the League Two club.**

The Seagulls [confirmed on their official website](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1803588/mcgill-back-at-crawley) that the 20-year-old will spend the upcoming season on loan with the west Sussex outfit, with whom he also spent time on loan earlier this year.

McGill, who has been [capped twice by England](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-mcgill/nationalmannschaft/spieler/406556/verein_id/22907) at under-20 level, has [yet to make an appearance at senior level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-mcgill/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/406556) but featured in [10 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-mcgill/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/406556) for Brighton’s under-23 side in Premier League 2 last season.

He was loaned out to Crawley in January but [didn’t get a game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-mcgill/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/406556) at the Broadfield Stadium and then had his loan spell cut short when the global pandemic caused the League Two season to be curtailed prematurely.

Brighton’s under-23s goalkeeping coach Shannon Ruth [told the club’s official website](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1803588/mcgill-back-at-crawley) that the 20-year-old made a good impression with Crawley manager John Yems during his time on loan a few months ago and described his return to the Red Devils as “a good opportunity for him”.

McGill would have faced an uphill battle for senior game-time at the Amex Stadium this season, with Graham Potter having [five goalkeepers](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/kadernachposition/verein/1237) in his first team squad, although [Christian Walton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-christian-walton-injury-update/) is set to miss a number of weeks with an ankle injury and David Button has been [linked with a permanent move](https://twitter.com/JPercyTelegraph/status/1297853974272454656) to West Brom.

McGill may need to be patient for opportunities at Crawley behind [last season’s first choice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crawley-town/leistungsdaten/verein/3537/plus/0?reldata=%262019) Glenn Morris, although his prospects of senior game-time there seem far greater than with his parent club, where there is a surplus of goalkeeping options.

The youngster’s lack of senior experience indicates that he is still some way off making a breakthrough at Brighton, although his England underage recognition hints at his potential, while the loan move to Crawley should give him a realistic chance of making an impression at first team level and possibly pushing for a senior Seagulls debut over the next couple of years.
