# Brighton & Hove Albion: Seagulls plotting £5m raid for Bright Osayi-Samuel

**Brighton are are among several clubs hoping to scupper a proposed move to Belgium for QPR winger Bright Osayi-Samuel.**

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leicester-city-fulham-brighton-ambush-bid-to-sign-leeds-united-target-after-fee-agreed/) reported that the London club have accepted a £5m offer from Club Brugge for the 22-year-old, although the Seagulls, along with Leicester and Fulham, are now hoping to make an 11th-hour swoop for him and keep him in England. All three clubs are reportedly willing to match the Belgian champions’ offer for the Nigerian.

Osayi-Samuel has scored six goals and provided nine assists in 39 games for QPR so far this season, most recently setting up Dominic Ball’s equaliser against Luton last week. Predominantly a right winger, he can shift to the left flank, or play in a number 10 or centre-forward role, if the occasion requires. \[via [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bright-osayi-samuel/leistungsdaten/spieler/358948)\]

The 22-year-old is adept at taking on opponents, averaging 2.9 successful dribbles and drawing 1.9 fouls per game, while his attack-minded nature is reflected in match averages of 1.2 shots and 1.2 key passes. \[via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/262409/Show/Bright-Samuel)\]

Interestingly, Brighton only have [one natural right winger](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/kadernachposition/verein/1237) in their current squad – and that is the rarely-seen Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

The Iranian has struggled for game-time this season, making just [11 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdaten/spieler/213268) in all competitions and [starting only three Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdaten/spieler/213268). His sole appearance since last month’s restart was [20 minutes off the bench against Manchester City](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdaten/spieler/213268), although the 26-year-old hasn’t been helped by a [recent hamstring problem](https://www.brightonandhoveindependent.co.uk/sport/football/brighton-and-hove-albion/injury-latest-brighton-defender-making-good-progress-ahead-newcastle-2917636).

His two goals in successive games over the festive period remain the [only two that he has struck in 2019/20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdaten/spieler/213268) – and indeed they are his [only goals for the club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/213268/verein/1237) since his £17.1m move (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alireza-jahanbakhsh/transfers/spieler/213268)) a couple of years ago.

Graham Potter has often preferred to play the likes of [Aaron Mooy](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-mooy/leistungsdaten/spieler/123951) and [Pascal Gross](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pascal-gross/leistungsdaten/spieler/82873) – [conventionally central midfielders](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brighton-amp-hove-albion/kadernachposition/verein/1237) – on the right rather than trust in Jahanbakhsh.

Should a natural right winger in Osayi-Samuel, who has had a productive season for QPR, arrive at the Amex Stadium, it would become even harder to envisage the Iran international getting much game-time, and he could subsequently decide to seek a fresh start elsewhere in that case.
