# Everton: Kevin Thelwell considering Neal Maupay

**Director of Football Kevin Thelwell is reportedly considering signing Neal Maupay for [Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/).**

### The Lowdown: Striker wanted

Given the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Goodison Park outfit are looking for a new striker to lead the line in his absence, with the lack of a traditional number nine clear as day in an otherwise decent performance at Aston Villa on Saturday.

The likes of Southampton’s [Che Adams](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/everton-toffees-eyeing-southampton-striker-che-adams/) and Strasbourg’s [Ludovic Ajorque](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/strasbourg-transfer-news-ajorque-premier-league/) have been linked with a move to Merseyside, and it will be interesting to see who they end up going for.

### The Latest: Maupay considered

As per the print edition of [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html) (via [Goodison News](https://www.goodisonnews.com/2022/08/12/everton-consider-swoop-for-brighton-centre-forward-neal-maupay/)), Frank Lampard and Thelwell are also considering a move for Maupay, alongside Adams and Ajorque, and are currently studying their options.

He has been [linked](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/20593738.brightons-neal-maupay-no-1-objective-salernitana/?ref=rss) with a move away from Brighton and Hove Albion, who are thought to be open to selling him in this window.

### The Verdict: Worth a punt

Maupay has not exactly been the most prolific in the Premier League, with [26](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neal-maupay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/217115/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=) goals over the last three seasons, but stretching back to his time at Brentford as well, he has been his club’s top scorer in all competitions for [five](https://twitter.com/markwhlte/status/1556943336958746630) years straight.

[Everton news!](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/)

Hailed as an ‘[exciting](https://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/murray-full-of-praise-for-brighton-striker-maupay-welbeck-will-be-good-for-him-4350873)‘ player by former Seagulls ace Glenn Murray, the Frenchman is only 25 years of age, and so his best years are still ahead of him.

Incidentally, Maupay shares the [same agent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/p-amp-p-sport-management-s-a-m-/beraterfirma/berater/206) as Toffees winger Demarai Gray, and so coupled up with Brighton’s willingness to sell, this is a deal that could perhaps be pushed through relatively quickly.
