# Leeds: Pete O’Rourke makes Armando Broja transfer claim

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) would pull off a ‘massive coup’ if they managed to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja, according to [Pete O’Rourke](https://www.givemesport.com/88030912-leeds-30m-premier-league-star-would-be-massive-coup-at-elland-road).**

### The Lowdown: Broja linked with Leeds

The Whites appear to be after a new striker to complete their summer business after already bringing in [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399) new faces. Club Brugge forward Charles De Ketelaere has been heavily [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/19134073/leeds-transfer-news-charles-de-ketelaere/), but it looks as if he is [keen](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1636209/Leeds-transfer-news-Charles-De-Ketelaere-30m-bid-decision-AC-Milan) on a move to AC Milan.

Leeds are also thought to be interested in Broja, who Albania national team coach Sergio Porrini hailed as ‘[devastating](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-radio-porrini-pogba-rischia-di-essere-appagato-juventus-stagione-fallimentare-1683947)‘.

[90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/armando-broja-chelsea-assess-options-southampton-bid-west-ham-everton-still-keen) name-checked the Whites, when it came to the striker’s next potential destination, with Chelsea set to command a fee in excess of £30m should they decide to sell the 20-year-old.

### The Latest: O’Rourke reacts

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88030912-leeds-30m-premier-league-star-would-be-massive-coup-at-elland-road), O’Rourke was asked about Leeds and a possible swoop for Broja. He said ‘it would be a massive coup’ due to the number of clubs who are keen on the youngsyer, adding that it could be a ‘really good piece of business by Leeds’.

The journalist said:

> “It would be a massive coup if they could get Broja considering the competition that’s out there for his signature right now.
>
> “You’ve got the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Everton, Southampton all in for Broja, so I think if Leeds were able to pull a deal off for the Albanian, I think it’d be a really good piece of business by Leeds United. He’s somebody who would provide goals for that team next season considering how well he did at Southampton.”

### The Verdict: Big money

It looks as if a move for Broja wouldn’t be cheaper than a swoop for De Ketelaere, with either of them likely to cost in the region of £30m, a fee that Leeds have [never](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transferrekorde/verein/399) paid for a player in their history.

Broja is still just 20 years of age with [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/armando-broja/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/571743) senior goals to his name for club and country. However, it could be a gamble to pay such a big amount for a player who has just [33 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/armando-broja/leistungsdaten/spieler/571743) of Premier League experience to his name.

It could be one which pays off, though, with Patrick Bamford making just [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-bamford/leistungsdaten/spieler/183334/plus/0?saison=2021) league starts last season due to injury.

Leeds could be better off going after a proven forward and having Joe Gelhardt as the exciting attacking youngster.
