Bayern Munich are plotting a raid on Birmingham City for England Under-17s captain Jude Bellingham, according to The Sun.
The 16-year-old midfielder made his senior debut in August and has scored decisive goals for the Championship side against Stoke City and Charlton Athletic (TransferMarkt).
Bellingham has been earning the attention of sides from across Europe with his efforts this season after Birmingham boss Pep Clotet awarded the central midfielder his breakthrough into the senior fold at St. Andrew’s in August.
The youngster’s brief cameo debut from the bench against Swansea in week five of the Championship campaign was immediately followed by a further outing from the bench against Stoke, when he would end the day with the record of being Birmingham’s youngest ever goalscorer at 16 years and 63 days (BBC).
It was a fortunate strike to find the back of the net after the ball ricocheted off a defender to wrong-foot Stoke shot-stopper Adam Federici, before the teen struck a confident winner away to Charlton at The Valley in his first senior start.
Bellingham’s name is now said to be firmly on Bayern’s radar as they continue to monitor the junior scene in England for emerging talents, having benefited greatly from Serge Gnabry after Arsenal allowed the winger to join Werder Bremen in 2016.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Bellingham (90min), with the suggestion that Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield natives could look to wrap up a deal ahead of the January window amid interest from Arsenal, Manchester City, FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern have already completed a double swoop on the Premier League this season after completing deals for ex-Chelsea duo Jamal Musiala and Bright Akwo Arrey-Mbi.
Musiala has played with Bellingham in the past, having both been a part of the England Under-17s side that lifted the Syrenka Cup in September, when Bellingham captained the Young Lions.
German outfits have undoubtedly benefited from their willingness to give young British talents a chance in the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund thriving with Jadon Sancho, as well as Ademola Lookman making a name for himself during his initial loan spell with RB Leipzig, where Ethan Ampadu is now on loan from Chelsea.
This proven track record of giving players a chance to demonstrate their potential could place Bayern Munich in a better position than some of the English sides allegedly interested in Bellingham, should all linked outfits make advances.
Birmingham will likely be reticent to losing their emerging talent, though, and will be in a commanding position to wave away interest in the winter if Clotet continues to offer the youngster frequent minutes in the Championship.
