Bayern Munich: Fans slam Jerome Boateng after defeat at home to TSG Hoffenheim

Many Bayern Munich supporters have been slamming the efforts of Jerome Boateng, after the Bavarian outfit lost 2-1 at home to TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Bayern welcomed Hoffenheim to the Allianz Arena looking to stretch their lead over RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga table, but instead saw the marginal advantage held over Julian Nagelsmann’s side wiped away after a brace by Sargis Adamyan pulled Die Kraichgauer clear of the relegation zone.

Adamyan opened the scoring for the visitors in the 54th minute after Hoffenheim saw a range of chances blocked or sail wide in the first-half (Goal), and later struck off a Robert Lewandowski equaliser six minutes after the Poland star found the back of the net.

Hoffenheim’s Adamyan enjoyed an early chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute only for Boateng to block the Armenian’s effort, with Bayern clearing the danger from the resulting corner with ease.

The 26-year-old eventually got his goal when Corentin Tolisso lost possession in midfield to Sebastian Rudy, with Adamyan cutting inside to drill the ball home into the bottom right corner of Bayern’s goal.

Hoffenheim’s Hansa Rostock product’s brace later came about when Adamyan rolled past Niklas Sule before again firing into the bottom right corner of Manuel Neuer’s net, with the German shot-stopper unable to get a hand to the ball in time.

Many Bayern fans felt Boateng could have done better to prevent Neuer being beaten twice, though, and took to social media to vent their frustrations at an experienced player who was ‘afraid of the ball’ and went to ground too early too many times.

The 31-year-old was the busiest of Bayern’s defenders against Hoffenheim, with Boateng attempting, and completing, five tackles, along with four interceptions – only Rudy and Florian Grillitsch completed more tackles, per WhoScored data.

Boateng also won the second-most aerial duels of any home player on Saturday, but the German’s four successful battles for possession came from 11 attempts, while also misplacing the most passes of Niko Kovac’s backline.

Here are some of the messages shared from Bayern fans left frustrated by Boateng’s efforts…
