Next on England’s itinerary to be vanquished will be the North Africans this Friday. Although the Desert Foxes aren’t expected to prove too much of an obstacle to mighty England’s inexorable route to international glory, one man who could get in our way is midfielder Zarim Ziani.
The 27-year-old is a national hero in his own country (despite him actually being born in France) as it was his cross that led to the goal that put Algeria through to their first World Cup finals since 1986 at the expense of near-neighbours Egypt.
Ziani currently earns his keep at German side Vfl Wolfsburg after making a name for himself during a two year stint at Marseilles.
He can be credited with installing a greater level of confidence into the Algeria Camp as they prepare to do battle in South Africa after his second half goal from the penalty spot handed his side a 1-0 win over the United Arab Emirates in their final warm up game last week.
