Some international transfer news has reached us here in the Football Transfer Tavern, with sources at Inside Futbol indicating that Lyon winger Michel Bastos is set to sign for German club Schalke.
Bastos has been one of Lyon’s top players for several seasons, but it appears his time in French football is drawing to a close after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted the player is likely to be sold this month.
“I think he will go in January” Aulas told Tutto Mercato. “He is in contact with German, English and Brazilian clubs.”
Schalke are looking for a replacement for Tottenham Hotspur bound Lewis Holtby who is set to join the White Hart Lane outfit in the summer, and are planning to bid £5 million for the Brazilian.
The 29-year-old has been plying his trade in France since 2006, having managed 25 goals in 97 games for Lille, before moving to Lyon in 2009.
He has a similar record with his current club, having netted 24 times in 92 games.
He has featured 12 times for Lyon this season, who are fighting for the French title. Les Gones manager Remi Garde will not want to lose one of his attacking options, although it appears the clubs president has already made up his mind.
