# Burnley: Clarets to continue Joe Worrall transfer chase

**Burnley are maintaining their transfer interest in [Joe Worrall](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/burnley-fc-transfer-rumours/burnley-forest-lamouchi-hands-off-worrall/) and could submit a third bid for the Nottingham Forest defender.**

That is according to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-barcelona-bale-22639826?_ga=2.27508988.1587890913.1599552808-1194075882.1560761803), who claimed that the Championship club may be willing to sell the 23-year-old if the Clarets put forward an acceptable offer, with Forest [reportedly holding out for £10m](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1297460323478310912) for the centre-back.

[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-barcelona-bale-22639826?_ga=2.27508988.1587890913.1599552808-1194075882.1560761803) added that Burnley manager Sean Dyche has already seen two bids rejected and is urging chairman Mike Garlick to get the deal done.

Burnley’s hopes of landing Worrall seemed to be fading out after journalist Alan Nixon [tweeted recently](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1299997738923368449?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1299997738923368449%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ffootballleagueworld.co.uk%2Fburnley-hit-stumbling-block-in-transfer-pursuit-of-nottingham-forest-ace%2F) that the Turf Moor outfit were unwilling to offer anything more than £4m for the defender – less than half of Nottingham Forest’s asking price.

City Ground manager Sabri Lamouchi also appeared to pour cold water on the move when he said there was “[no way](https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/nottingham-forest-boss-stance-potential-4482551?_ga=2.33769699.392962980.1598991668-1194075882.1560761803)” he would consider sanctioning the 23-year-old’s departure. However, [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-barcelona-bale-22639826?_ga=2.27508988.1587890913.1599552808-1194075882.1560761803)‘s report suggests that Burnley are not yet ready to give up the chase for the centre-back.

Their undiminished interest in Worrall may well be fuelled by the fear of losing defensive stalwart James Tarkowski, for whom the Clarets rejected a second bid from West Ham yesterday, this time for £30m (as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11708/12067981/james-tarkowski-west-ham-have-30m-bid-for-burnley-defender-turned-down)). The Lancashire club had initially placed a [£50m price tag](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8592819/Burnley-defender-James-Tarkowski-not-sold-50million-release-clause.html) on the 27-year-old but have [lowered this to £35m](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-big-new-development-in-west-ham-leicester-bid-to-sign-james-tarkowski/) in recent days as they [may need to raise cash](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/burnley-significantly-lower-james-tarkowski-22651643).

Furthermore, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-big-new-development-in-west-ham-leicester-bid-to-sign-james-tarkowski/), the Burnley defender is keen on a move to the Irons, who he apparently perceives a more ambitious club and who would offer him a substantial increase on his [current £50,000-a-week wage](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/burnley-fc/payroll/).

Tarkowski outperforms Worrall for a number of key defensive metrics, including aerial duels ([5.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/History/James-Tarkowski) to [3.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/History/Joe-Worrall) per game), successful tackles ([1.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/History/James-Tarkowski) to [0.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/History/Joe-Worrall)) and interceptions ([1.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/History/James-Tarkowski) to [1.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/History/Joe-Worrall)). He also has the experience of [123 Premier League appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tarkowski/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/173504), whereas the Nottingham Forest man has [never played in the English top flight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/415970).

One advantage that Worrall has on his Burnley counterpart, though, is in terms of passing accuracy, his [80.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/History/Joe-Worrall) far outstripping Tarkowski’s [70.8%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/History/James-Tarkowski).

\[freshpress-poll id=”318099″\]

The Forest defender would have a big task on his hands to fill the void that the West Ham target may leave; but with the increasing possibility of the Clarets cashing in on Tarkowski, the need for a centre-back replacement would amplify, which may explain why Dyche desperately wants Worrall in at Turf Moor.
