Burnley: Georges Mikautadze keen on Clarets move

Burnley: Georges Mikautadze keen on Clarets move -Burnley News

Metz forward Georges Mikautadze wants to join Burnley this summer but a move may be hard to complete, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Lowdown: Burnley after a striker

The Clarets have made an up-and-down start to their Championship season, winning just once in their opening five matches and drawing three times.

Only six goals have been scored in that time, perhaps suggesting that a new striker is needed, with midfielders Nathan Tella and Josh Brownhill topping the scoring charts with two strikes apiece.

Now, it looks as though Vincent Kompany could potentially be making progress on the signing of Mikautadze, having already had a €2.5million (£2.1m) bid rejected.

The Latest: Mikautadze keen on move

Taking to Twitter, Tavolieri claimed that Mikautadze would like to join Burnley, although getting a deal over the line could be complex:

“#FCMetz asked more than the double of what #Burnley proposed for getting Georges #Mikautadze. Player likes the idea to join #BurnleyFC but there is for the moment a difference too important between the offer and the expectations of the #Ligue2 french club.”

The French outfit’s demands are clearly an issue, but the player’s personal desire to move could help speed things along.

The Verdict: Strong attacking signing

At just 21, Mikautadze would come in as a long-term proposition for the Clarets but also someone who is already performing at a good level, scoring 36 times in just 57 appearances for former club RFC Seraing.

Two goals in 11 caps for Georgia also proves that the striker is holding his own at international level and he has been described as ‘incredible’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, while journalist Zach Lowy called him ‘excellent’.

Mikautadze could take Burnley up another gear in their quest to return to the Premier League, providing the spark in the final third that has been missing with Chris Wood gone and Ashley Barnes clearly not the player he once was.
