Burnley: West Ham’s interest in Rob Holding loan move could be welcome news for Clarets [Opinion] - Burnley Transfer Rumours

West Ham reportedly want to take Rob Holding on loan from Arsenal this season in a development which could please those of a Burnley persuasion.

The Sun claimed that the Irons are ready to table a £5m offer to take the 24-year-old on loan from their London rivals, with manager David Moyes keen to add a defender to his squad and co-owner David Sullivan willing to splash out in order to seal the deal.

The Hammers have made two offers to sign Clarets centre-back James Tarkowski, both of which have been rejected by the Turf Moor outfit (as per Sky Sports).

After a splendid 2019/20 season in which he was Burnley’s only ever-present outfield player in the Premier League, Tarkowski has attracted transfer interest from the likes of West Ham and Leicester.

Indeed, the Clarets had initially slapped a £50m price tag on the 27-year-old, although this has been lowered to £35m recently amid a reported need to provide an injection of funds by potentially cashing in on the defender.

However, according to The Sun, Moyes believes that the rejection of the Irons’ second offer, reportedly for £30m, could put Tarkowski out of West Ham’s reach, which may explain why they have instead turned to a potential deal for Holding.

Do you think West Ham will drop their interest in Tarkowski if they sign Holding?

The report added that the Hammers plan to succeed where Newcastle failed by submitting an offer which would see them cover Holding’s wages and add a premium in order to persuade Arsenal to loan out the 24-year-old.

Although the ex-Bolton man started the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, Mikel Arteta has plenty of options at centre-back following the recent signing of Gabriel Magalhaes, so Holding may not be guaranteed regular game-time at the Emirates Stadium.

With Tarkowski playing every minute of Burnley’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign and winning more headers per game than any of his team-mates at Turf Moor, it should come as no surprise that the Clarets are desperate to keep hold of him in the face of West Ham’s interest.

However, with Holding seemingly a more achievable transfer target for the Hammers, they may instead turn their attention to bringing in the 6 ft 3 (1.88m) Arsenal defender, which in turn could see them shelve their interest in Burnley’s centre-back stalwart in a welcome development for the Lancashire faithful.
