# Burnley: Clarets baulk at £10m asking price for Joe Worrall

**Burnley have been told to pay at least £10m if they want to sign [Joe Worrall](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/burnley-fc-transfer-rumours/burnley-joe-worrall-transfer-interest/) from Nottingham Forest – a fee at which they have apparently baulked.**

That is according to journalist Alan Nixon, who tweeted (via [@reluctantnicko](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1297460323478310912)) that the Championship club want an eight-figure fee for the centre-back, something which is putting the Clarets off from engaging in a potential deal.

> Burnley. Forest want 10m for Joe Worrall. Putting them off at this stage. Gibson and Boro return on loan still looks favourite.

Two weeks ago, the same reporter [claimed via Twitter](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1292382779720839173) that the Lancashire club are keen on the 23-year-old.

Worrall was an integral figure in Nottingham Forest’s ultimately [unsuccessful pursuit of a play-off position](https://www.skysports.com/championship-table/2019) in the 2019/20 Championship, playing every single minute of their league campaign and contributing with a goal and four assists from the heart of Sabri Lamouchi’s defence (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/leistungsdaten/spieler/415970)).

While he wins notably fewer headers per game ([3.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/Show/Joe-Worrall)) than Burnley centre-back duo James Tarkowski and Ben Mee with [5.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/Show/James-Tarkowski) and [4.1](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/94935/Show/Ben-Mee) respectively, the 23-year-old is far more composed in possession than the Clarets’ defensive pairing. Worrall’s passing success rate of [80.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/315714/Show/Joe-Worrall) far outstrips the [71.4%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/94935/Show/Ben-Mee) of Mee and [70.8%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131464/Show/James-Tarkowski) of Tarkowski.

However, Burnley’s experience of signing another centre-back mentioned in Nixon’s tweet for an eight-figure fee has been a chastening one. After they made Ben Gibson their [joint-record signing at £15m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45076206) from Middlesbrough in 2018, he played only [six times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-gibson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/128904/verein/1132) in the subsequent two seasons, being frozen out by Sean Dyche after reportedly [falling out with staff at Turf Moor](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ben-gibson-close-ending-nightmare-21483323).

The Clarets now find themselves trying to offload the 27-year-old, who [according to Nixon](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1297460323478310912) is on course for a loan return to Teesside, [where he had been training](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ben-gibson-close-ending-nightmare-21483323) during his exile from Burnley.

Burnley could do with another centre-back, given their [relative lack of depth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-burnley/leistungsdaten/verein/1132) in that position, and Worrall is a trusted campaigner (judging by his ever-present league status last term) who could offer the Clarets a ball-playing alternative to Mee and Tarkowski.

However, having had their fingers burnt by the ill-fated £15m acquisition of Gibson, it is understandable that they are seemingly reluctant to fork out £10m for the Nottingham Forest man, whose [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-worrall/profil/spieler/415970) valuation is just under half that amount at £4.95m.
