# Celtic: Talks over Cameron Carter-Vickers underway

**Celtic have now opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a permanent transfer for Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to [The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/cameron-carter-vickers-next-celtic-25825818)‘s Scott Burns.**

### The lowdown

Celtic kicked off their January business on Friday with the completion of a J1 League [triple swoop](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59838284) for Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

The Hoops signed Carter-Vickers on a season-long loan in last summer’s transfer window, with the deal [including an option to buy](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/cameron-carter-vickers-next-celtic-25825818) the centre-back for £6m. That would make the 24-year-old [one of the top 10 biggest signings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transferrekorde/verein/371) in Celtic’s history.

### The latest

Burns wrote in [The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/cameron-carter-vickers-next-celtic-25825818) that Ange Postecoglou’s ‘transfer drive’ at Parkhead is continuing at ‘full throttle’.

A Tottenham source has revealed that the Lilywhites are in negotiations with Celtic over the terms of a permanent move regarding Carter-Vickers. Spurs are apparently willing to be flexible on the fee and the payment structure for the American international.

### The verdict

It would feel like a big boost for Celtic if they could secure the long-term signature of Carter-Vickers, especially if they can do so on favourable terms.

Postecoglou has shown a great deal of faith in him, starting him in [every Premiership game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cameron-carter-vickers/leistungsdaten/spieler/341049) for which he has been available since he joined. The [£22,000-per-week](https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/celtic/) defender also ranks as the club’s fourth-highest performer among those to have played at least five matches in 2021/22 (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/103/Show/Scotland-Celtic)).

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2914069/2021/11/23/he-heads-it-further-than-most-players-kick-it-carter-vickers-journey-to-celtic/)‘s Kieran Devlin, ‘some quarters may argue’ that Celtic were lacking ‘aerial aggression’ before he arrived. Indeed, one of his former coaches in Tab Ramos [said](https://theathletic.com/2914069/2021/11/23/he-heads-it-further-than-most-players-kick-it-carter-vickers-journey-to-celtic/) that he ‘felt pain for the ball’ when Carter-Vickers connected with it.

With the 23-year-old conquering [4.4 headed duels](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/103/Show/Scotland-Celtic) per game, by far the best in Postecoglou’s squad, this aspect of the game now seems in safe hands for the Hoops. The American has shown that he would be a tremendous coup if the Glasgow club can strike a permanent deal for him.
