Whatever happens this season, Liverpool fans can be assured of one thing. Kenny Dalglish is going to have a lot of money to spend in summer, there’s no doubt about it! The Reds have already been linked with Conor Wickham, Ashley Young and Charlie Adam this week, a trio which could cost £30 million plus in itself.

Good ol’ John Henry has already made it clear that he’s willing to invest in the team, and was quoted in Football Magazine *Four Four Two* (and again in *The Telegraph*) as saying that  the ‘***worst surprise was the lack of depth in the squad*.’**

I’ve no idea how much Liverpool will have to spend. Does it really matter? It’s going to be a substantial figure, but I believe the really pressing issue is how they spend it.

It’s no secret that Dalglish wants to sign a left-back and a left-winger to compliment the options he already has in attack. But Liverpool do have something of a crisis developing at centre-back that needs sorting, and Dalglish might have just the man for the job.

With Carragher ageing rapidly and Kyrgiakos looking less and less like a Liverpool player everytime he plays, Dalglish is apparently considering a cut-price move for Paris Saint Germain defender Mamadou Sakho. Currently one of the stars of the French league, the 21 year old has also been linked with a move to Arsenal and Inter Milan are also supposed to be sniffing around the defender.

Sakho fits the bill perfectly for Dalglish, in that he can also play at left-back, but it’s likely that with Arsenal on the look-out for some quality defenders, any move could start a bidding war. Arsenal were quoted £12 million in the January transfer window, so that’s the starting price. If you think that’s an inflated price tag consider the *Daily Mirror* report that suggested Bolton Wanderers won’t let Gary Cahill go for anything less than £20 million.

If Wenger and Dalglish make the right offer for Sakho, they could be buying a bargain. It’s going to be an exciting summer for Liverpool, if ‘King’ Kenny gets his transfers right!
