Of course, Ikeme is a legendary figure at Molineux, having had his number one shirt number [retired](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2021/09/10/carl-ikeme-happy-to-see-jose-sa-take-no1-jersey-at-wolves/) from 2018 following his leukaemia diagnosis, until Sa took it this season, .

On the pitch, he made [more than 200 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carl-ikeme/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/26412/plus/0?saison=&verein=543&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the Wanderers in a lengthy spell, and he also [came through the club’s academy](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/club/20211109-goalkeeping-department-gather-to-learn-the-wolves-way/).

Given how his football career ended, and considering his status as a [fan favourite](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/club/20211109-goalkeeping-department-gather-to-learn-the-wolves-way/) at Wolves, many supporters were unsurprisingly left blown away by his renewed involvement with the club.
