# Celtic: Hoops agree deal to sign Oliver Abildgaard

**[Celtic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/) have reached an ‘agreement’ to sign Rubin Kazan midfielder Oliver Abildgaard, according to transfer insider [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano).**

### The Lowdown: Haksabanovic connection

Ange Postecoglou completed the [signing](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12679306/celtic-transfer-news-sead-haksabanovic-joins-scottish-premiership-champions-from-rubin-kazan) of Sead Haksabanovic earlier in the summer, and it appears that he won’t be the only player from Leonid Slutsky’s side making his way to the [Premiership](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premiership-news/).

The 26-year-old is [believed](https://thecelticstar.com/deal-in-place-celtic-to-sign-oliver-abildgaard-from-rubin-kazan/) to want out of the Russian club due to the ongoing war on Ukraine, and the Celtic boss [confirmed](https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/20865557.celtic-manager-ange-postecoglou-reacts-oliver-abildgaard-link-predicts-deadline-day-arrivals-parkhead/) the Hoops’ interest during an interview on Wednesday night.

### The Latest: Celtic set to sign Abildgaard

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1565230530450300932), Romano stated that Celtic are waiting on the final details to be processed before unveiling Abildgaard at Parkhead.

### The Verdict: Bitton heir

The Bhoys are yet to replace Nir Bitton since his [departure](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/tom-rogic-nir-bitton-leave-26954086) in May, but Abildgaard has all the qualities to be the perfect heir for the Israeli icon in defensive midfield.

The 6 foot 4 gem could add a different dimension to Celtic’s starting XI with his height, having won 4.3 aerial duels per league game for Rubin last season, alongside making 2.1 interceptions per match, showing his desire to take control and win the ball back for his team ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/377277/History/Oliver-Abildgaard)).

Celtic have been desperate for a holding defender and Abildgaard may want a fresh start with his former team-mate Haksabanovic , so this is a prospective move which should definitely suit both parties.
