# Celtic: Alan Hutton backs Hoops transfer target Aaron Hickey to “become a real star”

**Former Scotland full-back Alan Hutton believes that Hearts defender Aaron Hickey, who has been linked with a move to Celtic, could be a great signing for the Hoops.**

It was reported by [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/celtic-to-beat-premier-leagues-sides-including-arsenal-chelsea-to-hearts-starlet-aaron-hickey-01e95tg6xrqn) that the Glasgow club appear to have beaten English Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton as well as Championship outfit Leeds United to the full-back, who has seen his current club [relegated](https://news.stv.tv/sport/celtic-champions-and-hearts-relegated-as-premiership-ends?top) from the SPFL after the Premiership was abandoned last month.

Speaking about Hickey and the transfer links to Celtic to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-celtic-working-to-sign-player-hutton-claims-can-become-a-real-star-in-that-team/), Hutton said*, “He’s got even better, he’s become a better player and he’s versatile as well, I think a lot of clubs look at that at the moment. He plays on the left but he can also play on the right – he ticks a lot of boxes.*

*“He’s definitely a player that can be moulded and made even better playing in a stronger team. I think there a lot of the positives for Celtic – obviously not for Hearts, it looks like they’re going to go down. I think maybe Celtic would get him a little bit cheaper so it’s great for them.*

*“Looking to the future he’s a player who could really play for years and become a real star in that Celtic team so it doesn’t surprise me they’re interested, there seems to be a lot of other clubs interested as well but he seems to favour Celtic.*

*He’s been there, it’s not quite worked out, he’s had that drive, that force to go away and prove people wrong and it’s worked for him. This is a lesson for a lot of young kids.”*

It’s hard to disagree with Hutton on the potential of the the full-back, who is only 17 years old. He has already made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, keeping four clean sheets, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/591949/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=); 22 of these appearances have come in the Premership, in which he has picked up one goal and one assist.

He is also on the radar of Scotland as he has [underage caps for his country](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/nationalmannschaft/spieler/591949), highlighting that his performances have certainly not got unnoticed.

Given the level of interest from top English sides, Hickey signing for Celtic would be a great acquisition for the club and, if his star continues to ascend, the Hoops could have a left-back who should grow even better with age and potentially become a first team stalwart for many years to come.
