# Celtic: Argentinian journalist provides Alexandro Bernabei update

**[Celtic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/) are now on the brink of completing a deal to sign Lanus full-back Alexandro Bernabei, according to Argentinian journalist [Cesar Luis Merlo](https://twitter.com/CLMerlo/status/1541801967156137984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1541801967156137984%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fsportwitness.co.uk%2Fplayer-already-undergone-medical-ahead-celtic-transfer-contract-signed-next-hours%2F).**

### The lowdown: Hoops’ interest

The Hoops have been [heavily linked](https://twitter.com/frazfletcher/status/1537449906779983872?s=21&t=bA6F4SDtUMOso5Xd-eA4xg) with a move for Bernabei for a number of days and it now appears that the switch to Celtic Park is closer than ever.

Having flown to Glasgow from Buenos Aires last week, the 21-year-old is [expected to sign](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/celtic-transfers-alexandro-bernabei-lands-in-glasgow-long-jota-story-goes-on-search-for-midfielder-3745411) a five-year deal at Parkhead as Ange Postecoglou seeks competition for Greg Taylor.

After [completing the signing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/transfers/verein/371/plus/?saison_id=2022&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=) of Ben Siegrist and Cameron Carter-Vickers already this summer, the Scottish champions could be entering the final stages of another deal…

### The latest: Medical completed…

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/CLMerlo/status/1541801967156137984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1541801967156137984%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fsportwitness.co.uk%2Fplayer-already-undergone-medical-ahead-celtic-transfer-contract-signed-next-hours%2F), Merlo has confirmed that the player has undergone a medical in Scotland and is therefore edging towards becoming a Bhoy.

He stated: “Alexander Bernabei has already had a medical check-up in Scotland. Celtic are preparing the contract for him to sign in the next few hours until June 2027. Lanús sold 90% of its record.”

Previously it’s been [reported](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/alexandro-bernabei-faces-celtic-suspension-24290287) that the Hoops will pay £3.75million to sign the attack-minded full-back who was recently tipped as a player with a [‘big future’](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1516919450431275008) by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

### The verdict: Almost there

All being well over the coming hours at Lennoxtown and Bernabei – – who boasts impressive dribbling, finishing and defensive contribution attributes ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/386203/Show/Alexander-Bernabei)) – should be part of the squad that [flies out to Austria](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2022/may/05/celtic-return-to-austria-for-2022-23-pre-season-training-camp/) on Monday for a pre-season training camp.

During the ongoing 2022 South American season, the Argentine has [scored twice and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexandro-bernabei/leistungsdaten/spieler/719635) in 15 appearances across all competitions and should arrive into Postecoglou’s squad fit and raring to challenge Taylor for the first-choice left-back berth.

Overall the energetic Argentina youth international has earned a sensational 7.57 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alexandro-bernabei/989200) rating whilst winning 7.2 duels, making 1.2 key passes and 1.2 interceptions on average per game in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

Recently [dismissed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexandro-bernabei/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/719635/saison/2021/wettbewerb/AR1N/verein/333) after 70 minutes against CA Colon, Bernabei may still face [suspension](https://www.footballinsider247.com/ex-premier-league-referee-alexandro-bernabei-may-serve-celtic-ban-as-controversial-footage-analysed/) at the start of the 2022/23 Scottish Premiership campaign and will likely take some time to settle into life in a new environment and indeed a whole new style of play under Postecoglou having predominantly operated in a back four of a [4-4-2](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/club-atletico-lanus_club-atletico-aldosivi/index/spielbericht/3777669) in his homeland.
