# Celtic: Brendan Rodgers reveals he wanted Ademola Lookman at Parkhead

**Leicester City manager and former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has [revealed](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-press-conference-live-5893891) that he wanted to bring Ademola Lookman to Celtic Park during his time with the Hoops.**

### The Lowdown: Lookman’s Leicester move

Lookman, on [£56,000-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/ademola-lookman/#:~:text=Ademola%20Lookman%20earns%20%C2%A356%2C000,contract%20expires%20June%2030%2C%202024) with parent club RB Leipzig, sealed a late [loan](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/12395980/ademola-lookman-leicester-sign-rb-leipzig-winger-on-season-long-loan-deal) move to Leicester City on deadline day.

The Foxes have the [option to buy](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/12395980/ademola-lookman-leicester-sign-rb-leipzig-winger-on-season-long-loan-deal) the 23-year-old who Scott Parker described as [‘first class’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9046449/Fulham-boss-Scott-Parker-praises-Ademola-Lookman-taking-medicine.html), at the end of the season.

The winger began his career at Charlton Athletic, and it appears as if he was actually a Celtic target during his time at The Valley.

### The Latest: Rodgers’ comments

Rodgers was talking at a press conference on Thursday, cited by [Leicester Mercury](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-press-conference-live-5893891).

When talking about Lookman, Rodgers confirmed he’s known about Lookman since he was just 15 years of age and admitted he wanted to bring the ‘top talent’ to Scotland.

> “I’m really excited about working with Ade. He’s a top talent. I wanted to take him to Celtic when he was at Charlton. I was aware of him when he was 15. He has all the tools, he has a great dribbling ability, how he views the game, he has an eye for a goal. My hope is that this environment will give him a chance to flourish. Hopefully he can find a home here. I have no doubt the supporters will be excited by him.”

### The Verdict: If only…

Lookman can play [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ademola-lookman/profil/spieler/406040) across the front three and has already racked up over [150](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ademola-lookman/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/406040) senior appearances, [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ademola-lookman/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/406040) of which came in the Champions League.

On that basis, you’d expect a versatile winger with Premier League and Bundesliga experience would have gone on to star in Glasgow if Celtic and Rodgers lured him to the club as a teenager.

However, it’s good to see that the Hoops are looking to build for the future themselves with the signings of youngsters [Liel Abada, Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371), [Joey Dawson](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/june/Celtic-sign-highly-rated-young-striker-Joey-Dawson/) and [Ciaran Dickson](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/7674955/ciaran-dickson-celtic-b-rangers/) this summer.

***In other news: [McKay’s ‘top’ under-the-radar Celtic signing has already made an ‘impact’ at Lennoxtown.](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-transfer-rumours/celtic-ciaran-dickson-scores-again/)***
